Braves Easily Handle Red Raiders To Capture First Ches-Mont League Championship

The Daily Local News called Octorara’s victory over Coatesville Saturday night sizzling and remarked how Octorara’s basketball team played as a cohesive unit, all pieces meshing together like a finely tuned machine grinding next door neighbor Coatesville into the court.

Here’s what Pete DiGiovanni, sports writer for the Local, wrote:

Basketball is a beautiful game when the five players on the court mesh as one cohesive unit, hitting the open man, playing relentless man-to-man defense, penetrating to the basket and shooting a high perecentage. When this happens, a team is nearly unbeatable.

That is the blueprint the Octorara boys basketball team used Tuesday night as the Braves played a near-flawless game to claim their first Ches-Mont League championship with a 57-45 victory over Coatesville at Oxford High School.

Octorara (21-3) got great guard play from Charles Cooper and Mauriece Bowers, who scored 13 and 15 points, respectively, and controlled the boards with James Brown, Mike Navarro and Dequan Newton, who tallied 14 points to go along with six rebounds, holding the Red Raiders (20-4) to just one shot most of the night.
